Resident life

Surgical residency is an exciting and transformative, yet also challenging and exhausting time, regardless of what specialty one pursues or where one trains. At LSU Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we have an exceptional group of diverse residents and fellows that treats each other as family. We all wholeheartedly believe in hard work, exemplary patient care, and surgical growth while also prioritizing wellness and making time to enjoy what New Orleans has to offer.

Resident benefits

In addition to health/dental insurance provided to all residents by the LSU School of Medicine, all PRS residents are provided Loupes and resident membership to the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS), which includes a subscription to the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (PRS) Journal. Residents are also reimbursed for costs for one professional conference per year; funding for additional conferences are avaliable on an individual basis.

Resident Wellness

In addition to regular social get-togethers and happy hours hosted by the residents, resident wellness events are frequently hosted by the program. These have included resident breakfasts/brunches/dinners, faculty-hosted get-togethers, work outs, a fantasy football league, and art classes. Perhaps most anticipated is the yearly crawfish boil hosted by Dr. Womac following the annual in-service training exam. And don’t forget Mardi Gras and hundreds of other festivals that take place throughout the year!
